The London Gazette records that Spencer Cobbold Page, Gent, was promoted (to Ensign) in 28th Foot on 23/11/1855. In August 1856 The Edinburgh Gazette recorded "Ensign Spencer Cobbold Page to be Lietenant by purchase dated 1st August 1856"
His monumental inscription in Woolpit Church reads: "Sacred/to the memory of/Spencer Cobbold Page/Lieutenant 3rd West India Regiment/who was accidentally killed/in his 24th year/at Belize, Honduras/March 17th 1857/this tablet is raised by his village neighbours/in affectionate remembrance of/his many Christian ans social virtues."
An extract from Regimental Orders Camp Jamaica/"His memory will be treasured by the whole regiment for his devotion to the sick and dying/ during the fearful epidemic of Yellow Fever/in October 1856"
