Hubert George Hiller was a Choral Scholar at King's College, Cambridge. He was said to have had 'perfect pitch' and went on to Westcott House for ordination training. He was 'the Initial Priest', that is the first priest ordained in the new Diocese of St. Edmundsbury and Ipswich. His first curacy was St Mary's, Ipswich after which his ministry moved to Manchester and his son, George, would have been born there had not his mother been visiting London when he was born very prematurely and weighing only a little over 3 pounds. He accepted the living at Wortham, Suffolk in April 1935. This is the living given to Rev Richard Cobbold by his father which he, Richard sold to King's College, Cambridge in order to provide for his 3 sons' marriages.
