Annie Lilly Harrison was the daughter of William Harrison, a wine merchant's assistant and his wife Annie. Robert and Annie were married in Tangier in 1928 as Lilly had found herself to be pregnant whilst they were on a long tour of Europe. In Casablanca, Annie became seriously ill and suffered a miscarriage.
When Robert took an extended holiday in Eire in 1947, Annie chose to stay in England and in 1948 left the house in Amersham, taking the position of Resident House Mother at the Middlesex Children's Home in Willesden where she was to remain until her retirement in 1966.
