Gervase and Lady Winefride had 6 sons and a daughter.
Gervase Henry Elwes (the Carey was dropped by the family in the 1880s) was a Tenor of great distinction and it was whilst on a tour of the USA with his wife, that he was killed in an unlikely railway accident at a station in Boston. He was handing a coat which had fallen from a slow moving train to the guard when he fell between the train and the platform. He died several hours later in hospital.
His parents were Valentine Dudley Henry Carey-Elwes, b 26/11/1832, d 16/6/1909 and Alice Geraldine Ward, b 1844, d 1907. They had married in 1865.
