George was educated at Haileybury and went on to Keble College, Oxford. Though he didn't gain a blue at Oxford he played Cricket three times for Somerset in 1893 and 1894 (batting average 16.8). On the 1891 census George is living with his parents at The Vicarage, Bickley, Bromley in Kent and is shown to be a theology student. He was ordained in 1892 and by 1901 he is living in Almondsbury near Bristol with his wife and an unnamed six-day old child. He became Vicar there in 1919 having been made an Honorary Canon of Bristol Cathedral in 1915. He went on to be Vicar at Cold Ashton in 1929 where he stayed until his retirement in 1945. He is buried at Cold Ashton with his wife and son but for some unexplained reason his name does not appear alongside those of his family on the headstone.
