#2139, Samuel Fielding HARMER

Captain Fielding entered service in the Royal Navy 16 5 1806 at the age of 13. On 8 8 1826, he was Senior Lieutenant on HM Warspite which arrived in Sydney, Australia 19 10 1826 from Trincomalee, Sri Lanka. It remained in Sydney until 6 1 1827 when it sailed for South America. HM Warspite had 74 guns and 500 serving men. The 1st Class Sloop Driver had a wooden hull and was driven by paddles. She had 6 guns and was launched on 24 12 1840. Driver was wrecked in August 1861 - Mariguana Island. Captain Fielding died of fever at Chisan, China whilst in command of Driver. He and Susanne had 6 children, details of 5 of them not known. His parents were Robert Harmer born 1761 and died 1815 and Mary Moyse born 1764 and died 1844.
