Ereaut was educated at Tormore School, Deal, Kent and at Cranleigh School, Surrey before winning the Kitchener Scolarship at Exeter College, Oxford. He saw war service with RASC and was called to the Jersey Bar in July 1947 and to the English Bar that same year. He became Solicitor-General in 1958; Attorney-General in 1962; Deputy Bailiff in 1969; Bailiff 1975-1985. "The Gentlest of Bailiffs, Ereaut kept Jersey out of the EU" He had been knighted in 1976.
