Mentioned in Despatches, London Gazette 15th August 1917, DSO (for distinguished service in the field in Mesopotamia) London Gazette 25th August 1917. British War Medal, Victory Medal and Afghanistan, North West Frontier (with clasp) Medals 1919. Re-employed 1939-42, commanded 1 ITC September 1939 to January 1942. Awarded Jubilee Medal 1935 and Coronation Medal 1937.

He is commemorated in St. Brandon's Church, Brancepeth, DH7 8DF with a Brass plaque on the wall of the north transept beside the DLI window.  He was cremated at Darlington where there is also a CWGC (Commonwealth War Graves Commission) tablet.

He was complimented on explaining things by his young son's school friend. 

Jock played the mandolin and was a good tennis player, he played for Northumberland in county championships. 

He was mostly a solo singer and was encouraged by his son John Barrett Hasted to sing in Elgar's Gerontius Festival in Gloucester. 

In World War Two, he commanded the DLI in Malta and his son John Barrett Hasted on duty in Malta only just missed him.
