#1444, Daphne Marian JERVIS-WHITE-JERVIS

Daphne, of Freston Hall, became a member of the Suffolk VAD, the Volunteer Aid Detachment which was set up with 1910 regulations mainly for nursing duties but some worked on the land.  Typically a detachment comprised 23 women or 56 men.  When nursing they were mainly employed in home hospitals but occasionally just behind the front line.  See also the biography of Stella Willoughby Savile Cobbold #348 who also died in the 1919 flu epidemic.

At the personal invitation of the Duchess of Atholl she went (unpaid) to Blair Castle in Perthshire where she worked in the auxiliary military hospital which had been opened in the ballroom where she did mostly 'pantry work'. Daphne died on 10th January in the 1919 'flu epidemic. She was only 19 years of age.
