Hugh Crossley was a page to HM The Queen at the State Opening of Parliament in 1983 and 1984. He took over the running of the Somerleyton Estate in September 2003.

In an interview published in the Daily Telegraph on 15th July 2023 he said " It's a fair exchange between what is quite often burdensome, and being able to live in an extraordinary way." he wasn't fazed about inheriting the estate. " It was so institutionally normal that there was no other path - it wasn't a chalice, it wasn't a burden, it was just what happened" he says, "I felt that it was my responsibility."
