Whilst up at Cambridge Frank won a string of University prizes and developed a special interest in the religions of the East. He was ordained deacon at Exeter Cathedral and took up the post of Assistant Curate at Heavitree, near Exeter. His interest in the East persisted and he was accepted for a missionary post in Delhi, but his constitution was too weak so he was appointed to a lectureship at Selwyn College during which time he published "The Brahmo samaj and Aryo samaj in their bearing upon Christianity, a study in Indian theism". In 1903 he returned to his Devon curacy and later the same year became Rector of Salle within the patronage of his former college.
