Jean was the daughter of Frank Lewis de Sales La Terriere and Jeanie Bunten of Dunalastair, Perthshire, and had a brother, Francis J B de Sales La Terriere, one year younger than herself. Jean married firstly her cousin, Capt. Howard Montague Bulmer de Sales La Terriere. She and her second husband, Sir John Foley 8th Bt. had one daughter, Eileen Foley Grey born 1st February 1922 who died on 3rd September 1997. There was no issue from her third marriage to Desmond Edward Orme Wise.
