Sir Edward was the son of Archibald Weyland Ruggles Brise (1857-1939).  He married twice and his first wife had four children but there were no children from his second marriage to Lucy Pym.

On his death, aged just 59,he was succeeded by his son, Col. Sir John Archibald Ruggles-Brise, 2nd Bt.

Monuments in the Church of St. John at Finchingfield, Essex commemorate Archibald Weyland Ruggles-Brise, his beloved wife Mabel who was the daughter of Octavious Edward Coope MP who died 29th April 1929 aged 75 years and Col Sir Edward Archibald Ruggles-Brise and his beloved wives Agatha who died in 1937 and Lucy Barbara MBE, daughter of the Bishop of Bombay who died in 1979.
