Merrick (or Lindsey Merrick) was the second son of Peter Burrell, 1st Baron Gwydyr and Lady Priscilla Barbara Elizabeth Bertie, Baroness Willoughby de Eresby. His elder brother and the elder brother's son became 2nd and 3rd Barons Gwydyr.
