George became an Ensign in the 84th Foot (York & Lancaster) on 9th November 1867. He was promoted Lietenant on 5th May 1869 whilst stationed at Newcastle, Port Royal and Up Park Camp, Jamaica WI. He became Adjutant on 30th Decembert 1876, was promoted Captain on 19th December 1877.
