Durham Light Infantry (DLI) 20th April 1910; Lt. 7th November 1913; (temp Capt. 1st September 1915 to 19th April 1916); Captain 20th April 1916; (acting Major 18th September 1919 to 30th October 1919); Major 25th November 1930; Lt.Col. 18th September 1936; half-pay 27th July 1938; Retired pay 24th August 1938; Reserve of Officers, employed as Lt. Col. 24th August 1939.

ADC to Viceroy of India (the Lords Hardinge and Chelmsford) 2nd November 1914 to 12th Aporil 1916; Adjutant 1st Bn. DLI 20th September 1917 to 31st October 1919; Adjutant 3rd Bn. DLI 19th January 1921 to 1st October 1922; Adjutant 1st Bn. DLI 2nd October 1922 to 1st October 1925.
